Learning the Simple Savings Way of Life Again.

Posted February 9th, 2018

I've recently separated from my partner of 11 years, I had to re-finance the house we bought together so that I could buy him out, so now I have a mortgage all to myself.

I used to be very focused on saving money, I'd spend hours reading the Simple Savings vault, gathering tips on how I can make the money stretch further. Then I got a pay rise and the money situation got better, so I got really slack and forgot all my learnings from all those years of being a Simple Saver.

Turns out while the money coming in was more, the money going out was also more and I've got myself into a little debt. Nothing too big but more than I care for having, a mortgage, a personal loan and one large credit card. I have aims of paying off the personal loan and credit card by 2020 but to do this I need to re-learn the Simple Savings way of life.

Separating at Christmas time and feeling like I still needed to be the generous gift giver was really difficult and I'm struggling financially right now because of that. This year I want to be ahead of the game and purchase gifts when they come on sale throughout the year so I can reduce the Christmas 2018 financial burden.

Simple Savings needs to become my way of life again and I intend to keep track of myself through this blog. I know I can do it - I've done it before - so time to renew my membership (on pay day so I don't have to book it up on a credit card) and get saving!

Wish me luck!
