Sharing with our Community in the Ipswich Ulysses Toy Run

Posted December 12th, 2011

This is my first blog ever and thought I would share one of the best days I have had this year. After a year of disaster with the floods and many people still not back into their homes the Lockyer Ulysses Motorcycle Club worked their hearts out to make this the best toy run ever. I can proudly say that DH and I are members of said club.

The toy run is to collect gifts for the Salvation Army that get shared all over Qld. We saw people giving toys, money and food hampers to share the christmas spirit to those less fortunate than themselves. It also gives us bike riders to show we are not as scary as some might think :o) There were two full truckloads of gifts by the end of the day.

We start at Brassall shopping centre who always supports this every year by blocking off a third of their carpark for us, the salvation army cooks a huge breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages and onions and supplies tea and coffee. You can only get this when you pay a registration fee for the ride but it is so well liked people who didn't ride even paid the fee to support the salvos. The Mayor and police are also big supporters who were there to cheer everyone on. With over 550 registrations and many more bikes we estimate around 700 bikes, trikes or spiders all up. HUGE. People came from all over south east Qld, as it is open to anyone to ride.

Once the ride starts the police support is fantastic and stop traffic to let us all through the lights or corners we have to turn, people line the road to wave and wait for the following trucks to pick up all the gifts they want to give. Thankfully I am a pillion as I get to wave back the whole time and watch the joy on all the faces of young and old. For many people this is the only time they get a Merry Christmas sent to them especially the aged in our community and to be able to share that is truly awesome.

DH and I are still feeling the joy this morning, I have to say my arms are sore from waving but it is worth every ache. The phot I am attatching has come from a friend who shared his photos on face book, it is me waving my santa hat like mad trying to make sure everyone got acknowledged especially those hiding behind their windows...lol...it was an absolute joy to give to our community in such a great way. I hope your christmas spirit is shared amongst your community no matter how big or small.

Merry Christmas Everyone, I hope you have love and joy to share with someone even if it be a neighbour or complete stranger in the street. Tracy xoxoxoxo
