Countless and Unexpected Changes

Posted September 20th, 2013

Hello SS friends! Its been a long time since I last wrote, no I haven't won lotto or fallen away from SS ways. I have been busy, busy, busy and by the time I sit down at night its a mindless hour of tv and off to bed. My very SS way of life is going great and I am seeing wonderful changes, habits and benefits. The 3 biggest areas that have changed: Money and Budgeting: *Credit card hasn't been used and paid off 1/2. *Not only do I have an emergency fund for the first time ever but its growing (slowly) and I haven't withdrawn from it. *I have started putting extra on the mortgage. Shopping and Cooking: *My grocery bill is 1/2 what I use to spend/week (before SS) *I have lots of new recipes and continue to get more confident and experimental. *I have started cooking bulk meals and freezing. *I am more organised with meals and in the kitchen. *We are all much healthier for the change. Birthdays and Gifts: *One of the hardest things for me to change but its about feeling special on your birthday. A mountain of presents is lovely but there is better ways to make someone feel special. *The children get 3 birthday presents now, not a budget breaking pile. *DD turned 3 in August. I did a butterfly theme party for her. It was so sucessful, I made the food, the decorations, the games, a table centrepiece and the cake. It took a lot of planning and organising but it cost very little and looked beautiful. *I have slowly been buying Christmas presents all year, I have almost finished. *I have made presents. The brilliant thing with SS is that it has trickled down into other areas of my life too. *I am (slowly) decluttering the house. *I have bought clothes and presents from eBay and salvos. *I am more concious and thoughtful of waste (not just in the kitchen). I never thought much about throwing away clothes, toys, furniture. Now I am all about reduce, reuse, recycle. *I am actually crafty!! Between making presents, sewing school customs (use to buy) and making a table centrepiece I am getting lots of practice. I love it and find I get more creative with each new task. *I am in the process of making my 1st vegie and herb garden. So, that's a bit of an overview of my last few months. I know I came to SS for financial help but it has changed me and my household in so many countless and unexpected ways.
