Community Care Centre Arthur Highway, Racecourse, Tasmania, Australia

This little shop in rural Tasmania sells pre-loved clothing and shoes. They are all in good condition, clean and smell nice. The shoes generally range in price from $2.00 to $5.00 a pair but the best bargain is the clothes - six items of clothing (ANY clothing item) for $5.00. That equals 80c a garment! The shop is open Wednesdays and Thursdays 9am till 4pm all year round. They also have a Food Bank attached to the shop which is open Wednesdays and Thursdays 9am till 4pm, you are eligible to shop at the Food Bank if you have a current Health Care Card or Pension Card. The cost per item of food is $1.00 per kilogram. It is all good quality and "in date". It is staffed by a group of 'older' volunteers from the local church, which is nice because they have the time of day to talk with you. Also the men will carry your purchases to the car for you (especially great when you are pregnant - as I am - or not able to lift) without you even having to ask for assistance.

If you don't want to buy six items of clothing generally you only pay a little bit more per garment e.g. $1 - $2.00. You can also ask them to 'keep an eye out' for something for you (e.g. at the moment I am in need of maternity garments) and they will, putting it aside for you until the next time you come in. You don't really need to do anything to great a deal (just be nice I guess!) as they exist to help the local community.
