Keep nail bitten hands busy doing good

I have found an easy way to stop biting my nails and do a good turn for others at the same time! I have bitten my nails all my life, and especially do so when I sit down to do something like watching TV, when my hands are idle. A couple of years ago however, I began crocheting for charity and gift giving during these times. While being more conscious about what my hands are doing, I am also creating things to bring happiness to others. My nails grow and are stronger than they were, my hands are away from my mouth and I don't have the same urge to bite my nails!

Tomato paste doubles as cheap puree

Tomato paste saves me valuable dollars on buying puree! Whenever a recipe calls for tomato puree, I just use a sachet of tomato paste and then add water to it to make it up to whatever quantity of puree is required. It works as well and tastes just as good. I like to buy the Delmaine concentrated tomato paste, which comes in four little tubs of 70gm each. It is so versatile, and compared to tomato paste takes up far less room in the pantry!

Wedding gift that won't burn your pocket

I have found a low-cost wedding gift that will last throughout any marriage. While it does not cost much, each part of the gift has meaning and it is great to give a close family member or friend. You will need to put together a nice bunch of candles, in pairs of the following colours: white, green, dark blue, pink, cream, red, purple, light blue and silver.

Wrap the candles up with a ribbon or put them in a decorative box or basket, with the following poem attached (author unknown):

The white ones burn first

Butterflies flutter by with this pest-control solution!

We have been growing our own vegies, with quite some success, however we had a problem with white butterflies laying their eggs and producing green caterpillars which would attack our precious crop! I had heard that these butterflies were territorial so I came up with a brilliant solution to our problem. I made replica white butterflies,(out of waterproof ice-cream container lids) that were the same size as the real ones I then skewered them onto bamboo sticks and placed them in amongst my vegetables. Result: No more butterflies! It really works- I've watched them whilst having my tea break. As they fly over our garden they see there are already several there in our veggie patch, so they fly on over to the neighbours gardens! It sure is a cheaper and more environmentally-friendly solution than any other pest control I've heard of!
